The 386th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron unveiled its newly completed Silver Bullet Dining Facility seating area at its undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Oct. 31, 2017.

The Silver Bullet, which provides food services to all personnel working in and around the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing’s flightline, has come a long way since beginning construction in January of 2017. The completion of the first phase of construction included the opening of the dining room, as well as, meal service from recently installed serving lines.

“The EFSS vision is to ‘innovate Airmen delivering world class service and support to sustaining a fit, resilient and ready force,’” said Maj. Alisha Smith, the 386th EFSS Sustainment Flight commander. “Constructing and operating the new Silver Bullet will ensure the EFSS upholds these very core values to which we are obligated to.”

The Silver Bullet Dining Facility project is a two phase construction project. With phase one construction complete, the primary flightline dining facility has tripled its seating capacity.

“The original seating capacity of the Silver Bullet was 70 personnel, and now with the new renovation addition the capacity was increased to 215 personnel,” said Staff Sgt. Tony Salvio, the construction project manager assigned to the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron.

The old facility had less seating capacity and was not capable of on-site cooking, among other food-service needs, which required the EFSS to transport pre-cooked food to the facility from the installation’s primary dining facility.

Phase two renovation is slated to expand the Silver Bullet to be able to provide full cooking operations. According to Smith, the new flight kitchen will ensure a seamless level of service to all of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing’s operational partners.

“The impact of having an operational, fully functioning kitchen on the flight line is very beneficial to the entire 386th as well as Coalition partners, sister services and contractors,” said Smith. “The new Silver Bullet will be especially suitable for our members on the flight line, as we can assure the same quality of food service as our main Desert Winds DFAC.”

Some notable upgrades to the Silver Bullet include a new soft serve ice-cream machine, cake display and the most beautiful bathrooms on the entire installation, said Smith.

“This project enables all personnel working in and around the flightline to get chow faster while also providing relief to the over-crowded Desert Winds Dining Facility,” said Capt. Jesse Lantz, the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron deputy commander. “Ultimately, this enables U.S. and Coalition force personnel to vastly decrease their time away from maintaining aircraft, better-enabling sorties and our many missions.”
