SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The 379th Air Expeditionary Wing received a special package from Georgia last week that might help put a couple base Airmen in the spotlight later this year.

A briefcase containing Atlanta Braves-logo baseballs is making its way around the CENTCOM area of responsibility as part of Air Force 60th Anniversary "Heritage to Horizons" events throughout the year leading up to Atlanta Air Force Week, hosted by the Air Force Reserve Command, Oct. 8-14.

Several wing Airmen were videotaped passing the ball from one location to another to illustrate the journey, which will end at Turner Field, home of the Braves.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley will receive the ball and use it to throw out the first pitch for the game on the Air Force birthday, Sept. 18.

The videos of wing Airmen could end up in the production that will be shown to the crowd at the game.

During the filming, the Airmen were shown catching the ball coming from off camera. Next, they introduced themselves and described how they contribute to the Global War on Terrorism. Finally, after a greeting for the Air Force and Braves, the Airmen threw the ball to the "next person" in the video.

The Air Force Week program is meant to increase the awareness and support for American Airmen by informing public and involving them in activities that showcase diverse capabilities and missions, accomplishments and the sacrifice of Airmen.

Atlanta is one of six cities throughout the country chosen to host an Air Force Week. Air Force Reserve Command and the 94th Airlift Wing will host and support several events throughout the year in the metro-Atlanta area leading up to Air Force Week. The theme for the year is "Heritage to Horizons," celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Air Force, its history and the future of the worlds greatest force in air and space.
