The Commander of the U.S. Air Forces Central Command, Lt. Gen. Charles Brown, has directed the realignment of an Air Expeditionary Group June 16.

The transfer of authority and change of command ceremony was held July 16, 2015 moving the group from one Air Expeditionary Wing to another. The move will realign the Air Expeditionary Group's core mission of close air support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to stream line command and control under a recently reactivated wing.

"I expect the group to continue their combat operations in the fight against ISIL. They have a tremendous impact, which can be related to the recent gains by the Kurds in Northern Syria," said Col. K., Air Expeditionary Wing commander. "The transition will be flawless and they will continue to make a difference in OIR [Operation Inherent Resolve]."

In support of OIR, the Air Expeditionary Wing was reactivated with the Air Expeditionary Group being the first of many groups to fall under its command. The group will continue to support coalition partners in the fight against ISIL.

"It is a privilege to take command of a group of fine young men and women who day in and day out provide combat airpower to the coalition," said Col. L., Air Expeditionary Group commander. "We are making history everyday and are proud to join a wing with an abundance of military accomplishments."

The Air Expeditionary Wing has a rich history as a World War II fighter group with ties to the Tuskegee Airmen and recently provided key air support for Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
