This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Brianna Myre, communications focal point with the 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, deployed from the 148th Fighter Wing, Duluth, Minnesota.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

What is your current job title and unit?

My current job title is communications focal point with the 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron

Which squadron and base are you deployed from?

I am deployed from the148th Fighter Wing, Duluth, Minnesota.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the U.S. Air Force to better myself and my country.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

The biggest difference is the fast pace work environment and the overall importance of our jobs here. Back home, if communications go down, it may likely only affect a single flight. Here, if communications go down, it could affect the mission and the entire theater.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

While I am here, I am taking college classes through the University of Minnesota-Duluth to obtain my BA in Criminology and Sociology. I will complete it before leaving. With this I hope to be able to submit my commissioned officer packet back at my home station.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

With this being my first deployment and being a traditional guardsman, I enjoy all of the options to get involved and see the impact you can have around the base, both with morale and the mission.
What are some of your hobbies?

I am a little bit of a gym rat, I also play volleyball for the squadron and will be coaching the hockey team as well. I also enjoy beating sergeant Vera in NHL ’18.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge we have faced on the job was finding a solution for our South Ramp. With the new local PAX terminal being constructed, it caused a continuous drop in communication. Without the South Ramp having communications the mission is at a standstill. We were able to overcome it with the implementation of a communication flyaway kit (CFK), which utilizes a satellite connection for their communications and solving the issues with interference.
