This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Airman 1st Class Michelle Lindo, an entry controller with the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. The Palm Bay, Florida, native is deployed from the 55th Security Forces Squdron at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Q: What is your family’s military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?):
A:
My mother was prior army and my brother was prior security forces in the Air Force.

Q: What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A:
My mission here is to provide air base defense for all personnel and assets. One of my main roles is to serve as an entry controller for the base, as well as our restricted areas; ensuring all personnel are authorized and deemed to be no threat to the resources, infrastructures or personnel within the wing’s community.

Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A:
The best part of my mission is being able to multi-task and interact with not only members from my unit but from the within the entire wing. In sequence, it has also given me the opportunity to learn about how each individual flight, squadron, and group from within the wing comes together to form one team.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A:
Some challenges I face while conducting my mission are to ensure the safety of everyone who relies on me to perform my duties and to keep track of the assets I am tasked to safeguard. I overcome these challenges by continuing to perfect my standards as a vital support element to this base, and ensure that everything I do as a part of my career field is consistent and precise to the support for our mission.

Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A:
In a deployed environment, my responsibilities differ from those in contrast to my home base. Rather than, “what if it will happen?” there’s more of the question, “when will it happen?”

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A:
This is my first deployment.

Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A:
Being my first deployment, I really have no other experience to compare it to, however it provides me with the opportunity to experience the actual importance of my job and how I contribute to the Air Force on a worldwide basis. I have also had the chance to partake in the Defender’s Association for the 386th ESFS, Rising IV for the 386th AEW, the Women’s History Month committee; all in conjunction with additional organizations that allow me to connect more with those around me.

Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A:
All my life I have always pursued the dream of being within the criminal justice career field. As I graduated high school, I had consistently heard of people telling me about how the Air Force would be a great kick start on my dreams. Being the spontaneous individual that I consider myself to be, I figured, “why not?” From the moment I enlisted, the Air Force has given me a great abundance of knowledge towards what an actual law enforcement job may be like, as well as giving me the tools and experience I need to help me succeed in the real world.
