This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Steven Kojis, administrative journeyman with the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Group. The Burlington, Wisconsin, native is deployed fro the 552nd Training Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

Q: What is your family’s military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?):
A:
My grandfather was a paratrooper in the Army during Vietnam, and my uncle is a C-17 pilot currently serving as a wing commander.

Q: What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A:
My mission here is to provide administrative support to the commanders and all personnel assigned to the 386th EMXG through various programs.

Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A:
The best part is knowing that my duties directly support almost every aspect of an individual’s career, from PT to decorations and everything in between.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A:
Coordination of multiple programs with forward deployed personnel and AFCENT A1 has been a challenge, overcome by establishing good working relationships with people hundreds and thousands of miles away via telephone and email correspondence.

Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A:
Here I provide postal support and also book all travel for 386th EMXG personnel. It’s a much faster paced environment here and it really keeps me engaged at all times.

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A:
This is my second deployment.

Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A:
This is my first time working in a maintenance unit, and it is entirely different than the operations environment to which I am accustomed.

Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A:
I joined the Air Force to be a part of something bigger than myself and in hopes of traveling the world.
