Volunteers form critical link in the 'care chain'
A UH-60 Black Hawk crewmember with the Texas National Guard's 2-149th General Support Aviation Battalion accompanies Mike Zajicek and Capt. Hunter Letchman, volunteers at the Air Force Theater Hospital's Patient Disposition and Administration center at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, as they wheel a patient through Hero's Highway into the emergency room Oct. 22. The patient was aeromedically evacuated to Balad via a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. Zajicek, a facility inspector with the 402nd Army Field Support Brigade, is deployed from the Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., and has approximately 300 volunteer hours.
