5/31/2012 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS, Kyrgyzstan -- Members from the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing Theater Security Cooperation humanitarian assistance division installed toilets at the National Cardiology and Therapy Center in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, May 29.
The 376 TSC HA division was at the heart ward on behalf of the Manas Area Benefit Outreach Society, a private, non-profit volunteer service organization that supports the Bishkek area and communities near the installation.
"MABOS originally asked us to come and take a look at the windows, but the job was outside our scope of expertise," said Tech. Sgt. Stephane Beck, 376 AEW TSC HA division. "However, while we were here, [the heart ward] told us about problems they were having with their toilets."
Beck is deployed from Misawa Air Base, Japan.
"The heart ward already had the toilets on hand and MABOS raised the additional funding for the parts to install them," added Senior Airman Jason Ardons, 376 AEW TSC HA division.
Ardons is deployed from Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash.
The team spent close to five hours installing the new toilets in an effort to help improve the facilities in the heart ward at the National Cardiology and Therapy Center, a task that made Beck feel as though he was making an impact.
"I think our job gives us a unique opportunity to touch the lives of a lot of people here," Beck said. "To be able to help improve their facilities makes me feel good."
Ardons agreed, "Doing this type of work really makes me feel special. This type of work is important, it helps us strengthen our partnership [with the people of Kyrgyzstan]."
