8/25/2012 - Kamyshanovka Village, Kyrgyzstan -- Airmen from the 376th Expeditionary Communications Squadron from the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan visited the Kamyshanovka School, Aug. 23, 2012, to put a fresh coat of paint on the playground equipment prior to the first bell of the school year.
The 376 ECS sponsors the school to assist with various improvement projects designed to enhance the student's quality of life.
The Transit Center Airmen spent the day painting equipment in the sun with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
The 376 ECS Commander Maj. Steven O'Bannan was glad his personnel were making such a valuable contribution.
"I think it is awesome to be out here supporting the fourth pillar of the Transit Center's mission--community partnership. Working to improve conditions at the school for generations to come and building upon a strong community partnership is truly gratifying," said O'Bannan, a native of Missoula, Mont., who is deployed from Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
The Airmen enjoyed collaborating on the project and Master Sgt. Max Parris, communications systems flight NCO in charge, found the experience to be productive and worthwhile.
"The Kamyshanovka School is an excellent project for us to be involved in; we enjoy coming out here and working in the community. The schoolyard needed some fresh paint and we were happy to oblige," said Parris, a native of Rutherfordton, N.C., who is deployed from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. "We look forward to visiting again to lend a hand."
Senior Airmen Ericka Sickmeier, Transit Center records manager, loved being part of painting the playground.
"It was great volunteer in the local community and do something for the kids. I can't wait to go back and see the smiles on all their faces while they are playing on a newly painted playground," said Sickmeier, a native of O'Fallon, Mo., who is deployed out of Altus, AFB, Okla. |
