America’s favorite pastime finds desert home
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Joseph Dumdei, 532nd Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron, runs to first base during a softball game May 27, 2011, at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The ballpark started as a patch of uneven, unclaimed desert at the base in western Al Anbar Province. The Airmen, with the help of Soldiers, Sailors and civilian contractors, added lights, fences and dugouts. U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jacob Gibbons, 532nd Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron, hits a softball to the outfield during a game May 27, 2011, at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The service members assigned to the installation regularly work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week.
