SOUTHWEST ASIA --   Air Force Brig. Gen. John Quintas, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Samer Alkhoury, 380th Air Expeditionary Wing command chief, present Air Force Staff Sgt. Jeffery Nix, 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron pavement and equipment craftsman, a warrior of the week certificate at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, July 30, 2014. Nix is deployed from Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

Staff Sgt. Nix, while under stringent time constraints, rallied his team of 15 Airmen to prepare and pour 41 cubic meters of concrete at the new fitness center. His leadership was key to overcoming numerous challenges and readying the facility for the grand opening. As a heavy repair expert and backhoe operator, he led three crews and 14 personnel during placement of 15 tons of asphalt and multiple excavation projects, completing all work three weeks ahead of schedule and saving more than $200K in contract costs. Despite his busy duty schedule, he was able to simultaneously complete six semester hours towards his Community College of the Air Force degree.
