'Hercs' integral to Air Force GWOT milestone
SOUTHWEST ASIA -- First Lieutenant Matthew Goldsmith, a C-130 Hercules navigator deployed to the 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, observes the cargo area of the aircraft throughout the loading of a pallet in preparation for the combat sortie that transported Soldiers out of Balad Air Base, Iraq April 21, 2008. The Air Force recently surpassed more than one million sorties flown by Air Force aircraft in the Global War on Terror since Sept. 11, 2001. Synchronized and integrated into larger coalition air efforts, these missions represent the most deliberate, disciplined and precise air campaign in history. Lieutenant Goldsmith is deployed from the 39th Airlift Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Staff Sgt. Patrick Dixon)
