One of the most critical contributions air power can make to a counter-insurgency (COIN) effort is in the area of battlefield mobility. Airborne battlefield mobility is the ability to quickly move ground troops anywhere they need to go. The speed and maneuverability afforded by air power allows friendly forces to engage from a position of advantage before enemy forces can react. The Afghan National Army Air Corps (ANAAC), teaming with the Combined Air Power Transition Force (CAPTF), has recently made dramatic battlefield mobility improvements within the 207th Corps’ area of operations in western Afghanistan.
