Lt. Gen. Gary North shares a laugh with Valentina Turabekova, March 11, at Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan, as she jokes about him helping her try and land a job at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. General North, the commander for 9th Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Central, made a two-day visit to Manas to meet the new rotation of deployed Airmen as well as the coalition partners supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. Ms. Turabekova, who is from Bishkek, is the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing commander?s translator and has worked at Manas since operations began at the base in December 2001.
