U.S. Air Force Col. Christopher Bates, incoming 379th Expeditionary Medical Group commander gives a speech during a change of command ceremony at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, June 17, 2023. Bates is a pilot-physician with more than 2000 pilot hours in the T-6, T-1, KC-135, and KC-46, including more than 430 combat hours for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Yemen. As a flight surgeon and critical care air transport team physician he has also deployed in support of operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM accruing more than 220 combat hours in the UH-60, C-23, C-130J, C-130H, KC-135 and C-17.
