WEBVTT 00:09.300 --> 00:11.356 Hello , marauders . I'm Colonel Nate 00:11.356 --> 00:13.411 Asta , your wing commander , and I'm 00:13.411 --> 00:15.689 Chief Mickton , the wing command chief . 00:15.689 --> 00:17.522 The purpose of our podcast is to 00:17.522 --> 00:19.578 connect with you , the airmen , talk 00:19.578 --> 00:21.633 about what we've done and what we're 00:21.633 --> 00:23.856 gonna do . We know you've been busy out 00:23.856 --> 00:25.967 there accomplishing the mission , and 00:25.967 --> 00:28.078 we just want to cover a little bit of 00:28.078 --> 00:30.133 that . So we're known as the theater 00:30.133 --> 00:32.133 gateway . We move 70% of people and 00:32.133 --> 00:34.779 cargo throughout the AOR . It starts 00:34.779 --> 00:36.557 out going through the logistics 00:36.557 --> 00:38.890 squadron , where they build up a pallet , 00:38.890 --> 00:40.946 they manifest it , they inspect it , 00:40.946 --> 00:43.112 and they move it and load it onto this 00:43.112 --> 00:45.446 airplane . The load master is loaded up , 00:45.446 --> 00:47.557 the aircrew take off and deliver that 00:47.557 --> 00:49.612 cargo somewhere throughout the AOR . 00:49.612 --> 00:51.335 Sometimes on that aircraft our 00:51.335 --> 00:53.390 aeromedical evacuation squadron have 00:53.390 --> 00:55.557 personnel that are transporting people 00:55.557 --> 00:57.668 either hurt or injured throughout the 00:57.668 --> 00:59.723 AOR , and sometimes we have security 00:59.723 --> 01:01.890 forces members on board protecting the 01:01.890 --> 01:04.001 aircraft when it lands . Those people 01:04.001 --> 01:06.279 are known as the flyaway security team . 01:06.279 --> 01:08.390 Or the FAST team , and I recently saw 01:08.390 --> 01:10.557 that when I was on a FAST team mission 01:10.557 --> 01:12.668 just like you mentioned , the flyaway 01:12.668 --> 01:14.890 security team with security forces . We 01:14.890 --> 01:17.057 were assigned to an aircraft just like 01:17.057 --> 01:19.279 the one that's behind us , where we had 01:19.279 --> 01:21.446 to our cargo and our people as well as 01:21.446 --> 01:23.168 the aircraft up into austerior 01:23.168 --> 01:25.335 locations and provide security for the 01:25.335 --> 01:27.446 aircraft while they were moving cargo 01:27.446 --> 01:29.390 around the theater . It was pretty 01:29.390 --> 01:31.446 amazing the things that they did and 01:31.446 --> 01:33.446 the dedication that they have . The 01:33.446 --> 01:35.557 total mission was 21 hours long . And 01:35.557 --> 01:37.779 it gave me a firsthand look at what our 01:37.779 --> 01:40.440 airmen are asked to do every day . Yeah , 01:40.510 --> 01:42.510 when I fly on the C-130 , I've seen 01:42.510 --> 01:44.510 those FAST team members , and it is 01:44.510 --> 01:46.454 nice knowing that they are there . 01:46.454 --> 01:48.677 Additionally , I've been walking around 01:48.677 --> 01:50.843 base and I saw a mass casualty event , 01:50.843 --> 01:52.954 an exercise mass casualty event known 01:52.954 --> 01:55.177 as Capable Cavalier going on . It was a 01:55.177 --> 01:57.343 joint training event between ourselves 01:57.343 --> 01:59.399 and our army counterparts where they 01:59.399 --> 02:01.677 were practicing taking care , triaging . 02:01.677 --> 02:03.843 If there was a mass casualty event and 02:03.843 --> 02:05.889 then moving the patients onto 02:05.889 --> 02:08.111 helicopters or C-130 to get them out to 02:08.111 --> 02:10.111 a higher level of care , that was a 02:10.111 --> 02:12.222 really neat exercise to witness . Yes 02:12.222 --> 02:14.167 sir , our medical section is truly 02:14.167 --> 02:16.222 great . They're all professionals at 02:16.222 --> 02:18.445 what they do . Absolutely . In addition 02:18.445 --> 02:20.500 to the capable cavalier , we've also 02:20.500 --> 02:22.830 been working on the Marauder flex 02:22.830 --> 02:24.719 exercises , commonly known as our 02:24.719 --> 02:26.886 bunker dives . I was able to see a lot 02:26.886 --> 02:29.270 of cool things during our exercises 02:29.270 --> 02:31.492 recently , and I could tell that people 02:31.492 --> 02:33.492 were really taking it seriously and 02:33.492 --> 02:35.381 training as they would fight . If 02:35.381 --> 02:37.603 you've noticed during our Marauder Flex 02:37.603 --> 02:39.826 exercises , we started out a little bit 02:39.826 --> 02:42.589 slower in more of a crawl phase , then 02:42.589 --> 02:44.700 we eventually moved into a walk phase 02:44.700 --> 02:46.860 and now what we would do in a real 02:46.860 --> 02:50.100 emergency . Those exercises are pretty 02:50.100 --> 02:52.044 amazing seeing what our people are 02:52.044 --> 02:53.933 doing . Hey Chief , we passed the 02:53.933 --> 02:56.360 halfway point . And we do have to 02:56.360 --> 02:58.471 recognize that we are approaching the 02:58.471 --> 03:00.440 midpoint slump . This is a pretty 03:00.440 --> 03:02.759 common point in a 6 month deployment 03:03.039 --> 03:05.789 that people can get down . We see it 03:05.960 --> 03:07.904 where people are a little bit less 03:07.904 --> 03:09.904 patient , a little more irritable , 03:09.904 --> 03:11.960 homesick , and just generally not as 03:11.960 --> 03:14.016 patient with each other . And I just 03:14.016 --> 03:16.182 want to remind the airmen that this is 03:16.182 --> 03:18.460 common and we should just recognize it . 03:18.460 --> 03:20.516 There are a lot of resources we have 03:20.516 --> 03:22.627 available within the base to help you 03:22.627 --> 03:24.404 deal with that . From the equal 03:24.404 --> 03:26.516 opportunities to the mental health to 03:26.516 --> 03:28.404 our chaplain section or even your 03:28.404 --> 03:30.516 command chain , we have the resources 03:30.516 --> 03:32.516 to help you deal with some of those 03:32.516 --> 03:34.571 feelings that you might have , and I 03:34.571 --> 03:36.793 encourage you to use the resources that 03:36.793 --> 03:39.071 we provide . It is OK to feel that way . 03:39.071 --> 03:40.904 Yes sir , and I think one of the 03:40.904 --> 03:42.793 biggest resources is each other , 03:42.793 --> 03:44.904 leaning on each other and taking care 03:44.904 --> 03:47.016 of your wingman , your battle buddy . 03:47.016 --> 03:49.270 Staying connected not only here on base 03:49.270 --> 03:51.437 with your family and your friends back 03:51.437 --> 03:53.492 home is definitely a huge thing that 03:53.492 --> 03:55.679 can help . Remember , marauders , it's 03:55.679 --> 03:59.330 OK to not be OK . Moving on , we'd like 03:59.330 --> 04:01.970 to discover the holidays and how hard 04:01.970 --> 04:03.729 you have worked . I personally 04:03.729 --> 04:05.840 witnessed you working hard throughout 04:05.840 --> 04:07.840 the holiday season and into the new 04:07.840 --> 04:10.062 year , and I just want to say thank you 04:10.062 --> 04:12.062 for all that effort and hard work . 04:12.062 --> 04:14.173 Your sacrifices are what continue the 04:14.173 --> 04:16.173 mission . We're very proud of you . 04:16.173 --> 04:19.408 Thanks for all you do . Upcoming within 04:19.419 --> 04:21.908 the next few weeks , we have a major 04:21.908 --> 04:24.241 exercise that's going on within the AOR . 04:24.468 --> 04:26.468 We're going to be moving aircraft , 04:26.468 --> 04:28.635 we're going to be receiving aircraft , 04:28.635 --> 04:28.329 and we're going to be practicing our 04:28.588 --> 04:30.810 our mission sets , trying to get better 04:30.810 --> 04:32.421 with everything that we do . 04:32.421 --> 04:34.255 Additionally , we're going to be 04:34.255 --> 04:36.255 expanding more of the Marauder flex 04:36.255 --> 04:38.477 exercises that you talked about . I ask 04:38.477 --> 04:40.421 you to make sure that your gear is 04:40.421 --> 04:42.532 ready , you understand where to go in 04:42.532 --> 04:44.820 case there are any emergencies , where 04:44.820 --> 04:46.940 to hop into a bunker , and know the 04:46.940 --> 04:49.051 accountability . How are you going to 04:49.051 --> 04:51.107 contact your chain of command to let 04:51.107 --> 04:51.089 them know where you're at ? And then 04:51.089 --> 04:53.311 finally we have a major air show coming 04:53.311 --> 04:55.422 up that's in theater where we will be 04:55.422 --> 04:57.478 sending an aircraft and personnel to 04:57.478 --> 04:59.589 showcase what we do here at the 386 . 04:59.609 --> 05:01.553 That's great , sir , and I have no 05:01.553 --> 05:03.776 doubt that our team's going to continue 05:03.776 --> 05:05.776 to crush it . Another thing that we 05:05.776 --> 05:07.998 need to think about is starting to plan 05:07.998 --> 05:09.776 how we're going to hand off the 05:09.776 --> 05:11.887 information to the incoming 26.2 team 05:11.887 --> 05:13.831 as well . That's pretty wild to be 05:13.831 --> 05:16.049 thinking about that already . As you 05:16.049 --> 05:18.216 may have noticed , we're standing on a 05:18.216 --> 05:20.299 60k loader . And we have a pallet 05:20.299 --> 05:22.521 staged into the back of this aircraft . 05:22.521 --> 05:24.299 So tying in the aerial port and 05:24.299 --> 05:26.466 innovation , we're going to show you a 05:26.466 --> 05:28.632 little bit about how it's done today . 05:28.632 --> 05:30.855 All right . Ready to put some pallets . 05:30.855 --> 05:32.855 I'm ready . You ready ? Heck yeah , 05:32.855 --> 05:34.910 let's do it . You want to put the uh 05:34.910 --> 05:37.243 exoskeleton on at all , or are you good ? 05:37.243 --> 05:36.589 I think we're gonna look at yours . 05:36.829 --> 05:39.051 They're gonna zoom in on yours . Yeah , 05:39.051 --> 05:41.273 absolutely . What , what does this help 05:41.273 --> 05:43.496 you with ? I guess a lot of people kind 05:43.496 --> 05:43.339 of get the misconception that this 05:43.339 --> 05:45.117 actually gives you strength and 05:45.117 --> 05:47.117 unfortunately that's not the case , 05:47.117 --> 05:49.283 right ? Um , it just , it really takes 05:49.283 --> 05:48.980 a lot of the , the load off , right ? 05:49.470 --> 05:51.748 So I use this when I'm pushing pallets . 05:51.748 --> 05:53.914 It gives you a little bit of a drive , 05:53.914 --> 05:53.480 right ? It's not gonna make you like 05:53.480 --> 05:55.579 Superman or anything like that , but 05:55.579 --> 05:58.019 it's just , it helps a lot with that , 05:58.510 --> 06:00.760 huh , right ? Well , great . But yeah , 06:00.899 --> 06:02.955 well , let's push your pallet then , 06:02.955 --> 06:05.279 huh ? 915 pounds . 06:07.609 --> 06:09.910 Have your gloves on . I do . Perfect . 06:10.450 --> 06:11.561 Right . All right . 06:20.630 --> 06:23.070 We give her a running start . Pull her 06:23.070 --> 06:25.450 back a little . Might have to be line 06:25.450 --> 06:28.279 63 . All right . No , 06:29.660 --> 06:32.019 Almost . I didn't push that hard . You 06:32.019 --> 06:34.241 got it . I gotta be honest , I didn't . 06:34.241 --> 06:36.408 All right , we got her this side . I'm 06:36.408 --> 06:38.686 gonna give her on this one . All right , 06:38.686 --> 06:41.339 we good ? Yep . All right , full steam 06:41.339 --> 06:42.339 ahead . 06:51.640 --> 06:53.751 All right , well , Herman First Class 06:53.751 --> 06:55.862 Shepherd , thank you very much . That 06:55.862 --> 06:58.029 was an awesome experience , uh , doing 06:58.029 --> 06:57.880 that . You made that look easy . Thanks 06:57.880 --> 06:59.589 for explaining , uh , the new 06:59.589 --> 07:01.700 exoskeleton and I appreciate what you 07:01.700 --> 07:04.033 do . I appreciate you . Thank you , sir . 07:04.033 --> 07:06.311 It's just , it's great to be here , uh , 07:06.311 --> 07:06.239 in such a great environment , work with 07:06.239 --> 07:08.572 such great people , just being out here , 07:08.572 --> 07:10.795 being able to do my job . That , that's 07:10.795 --> 07:13.017 just such a blessing honestly and being 07:13.017 --> 07:15.239 at such a fantastic location to do it , 07:15.239 --> 07:15.019 I couldn't ask for anything more so 07:15.019 --> 07:18.250 awesome , yeah , thanks , uh , from all 07:18.250 --> 07:20.250 of us , and I want you to know that 07:20.250 --> 07:22.361 everything you do matters . There are 07:22.361 --> 07:24.472 no small jobs in the Air Force , just 07:24.472 --> 07:26.361 essential ones . Yes sir . Well , 07:26.361 --> 07:28.472 marauders , thank you for what you do 07:28.472 --> 07:30.694 every day .
