Colonel Jerry Rumbach is the Commander, 386th Expeditionary Medical Group, Southwest Asia, in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. He leads Air Force and coalition medical forces providing flight medicine, emergency/primary care, dental, mental health, preventative medicine, and medical support services to four thousand joint and coalition forces. Colonel Rumbach mitigates public health, occupational, and environmental risks. He is the functional expert to 65 Commanders, Chiefs and First Sergeants and fosters partnerships and training opportunities with Host Nation, joint and coalition forces throughout Southwest Asia.
Prior to this assignment, Colonel Rumbach was the Commander, 49th Medical Operations Squadron and the Chief Nurse, 49th Medical Group, Holloman Air Force Base. During his time at Holloman, he served as the Course Director for the Defense Institute for Medical Operations, Trauma Nursing Course.
Colonel Rumbach holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Arts in General Business from Webster University. Prior to his assignment to the 49th Medical Operations Squadron, he was the Chief Nurse at the 43d Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, where he led nursing services for 132 personnel in the Air Force’s first and only active associate Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron with an Air Force Reserve Wing. He was the Critical Care Air Transport Team Course Director and taught in seven courses at USAFSAM. Colonel Rumbach has deployed three times prior to this deployed assignment with the most recent at the 455th Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.
