Master Sgt. Hummel is a key member of the 438th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group Operations Team. Hummel has performed 68 hours of flight overwatch -- ensuring safe delivery of 40 aircew, 302 passengers, 60,000 pounds of cargo and 27 casualty evacuation patients. In addition, he has devoted 81 hours to advising and is always willing to take on additional duties to help a teammate.

After his primary Afghan advisee was killed in an improvised explosive device attack on an Afghan National Security Force bus on July 2, Hummel's expert and compassionate leadership brought the Afghan Life Support Flight back to the fight within days by instructing the inventory, inspection and replacement of C-130 Life Support equipment.
