Relationships with partners and allies are important for the U.S. military at operating locations around the world, and that is no different for those U.S. bases in the U.S. Air Forces Central Command area of operation.

Airmen deployed here, including U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Joseph Guastella, AFCENT commander, attended festivities downtown Doha to celebrate Qatar National Day alongside Qatari leaders and dignitaries, Dec. 18, 2019.

“Qatar is a proven and trusted ally, and celebrating events like this together is a great way for us to learn about each other’s culture and celebrate our lasting relationship,” Guastella said. “We enjoy a tremendous bond with Qatar, and their support is critical to the success of our forward-deployed forces.”

The annual holiday is an occasion for Qataris to celebrate their national identity and history. This year’s Qatar National Day celebration included a parade involving the Qatari military, police, and local schools. The day featured firework displays, military aircraft flyovers, and many other demonstrations of national pride.

More than 70 Qatari and coalition aircraft participated in the flyovers, including U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles based in the theater.

The flyovers showcased the world-class capabilities of the U.S. Air Force and coalition partners.

“We’re stronger together than we are by ourselves,” Guastella said. “The true value of a coalition is the collective defense capabilities enabled by operating together with a common goal – providing deterrence against would-be adversaries and enhancing regional security and stability.”
