9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The 376th Air Expeditionary Wing holds a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan, Sept. 11, 2013. The ceremony was held to pay tribute to the lives lost in the 9/11 attacks and to highlight the heroic actions of the New York City Fire Department Chief of Department Peter J. Ganci Jr. who was among the 343 firefighters and paramedics killed while conducting rescue operations at the World Trade Center. Following the 9/11 attacks, the Transit Center, formerly known as Ganci Air Base in honor of Chief Ganci, reactivated and designated the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing in December 2001 to support operations in Afghanistan.
