SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Trent Lowe, a 386th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron integrated communication counter-intelligence navigation systems technician. He is deployed from the North Carolina Air National Guard.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I chose to join the Air Force because I wanted the opportunity to do something honorable in my career. I was unsure of the specific career that I wanted to take and I knew the Air Force could help me learn exactly what I wanted for my career. Lastly, I joined the Air Force because I wanted to continue the tradition of serving my country set by previous family members.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?
My deployed Unit is different in many ways from home. There is a lot more dust, the work hours, the walking, the sandstorms. Also, the tempo of the mission is completely different here as we are serving a different mission. Every launch is important and needs to make its line to meet the mission so that we continue to help our brothers and sisters downrange defeat ISIS and terrorism.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?
My professional goals consist of getting promoted to technical sergeant, being the best leader to my fellow co-workers possible and setting an example that inspires others to do the same. My personal goals consist of finishing my bachelor’s degree within the next two years. I also aspire to be the best husband and father that I am able to be.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?
My favorite part of the mission here is being a direct link to defeating ISIS and terrorism. When aircraft are down and are unable to do their part, my unit and I work diligently to return the aircraft to fully mission capable so that we can continue to use them for the mission. Seeing aircraft return broke and leave again fully mission capable is motivating and we will continue to do what it takes to complete the mission.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?
Here at the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, life is completely different, your work schedule, where you sleep, where you eat, what you eat, when you eat, along with what you do with your time off. Adapting to the life here is a challenge in itself; however, every resource that you could possibly need is here to make that challenge a small one to overcome. Some of those resources consist of the massage chairs at the chapel, to the movie theatre, the Wi-Fi on base, and the BX.

What are some of your hobbies?
Some of my hobbies are weight training, ping pong, pool, shuffleboard, basketball. Mostly everything available will be a hobby of mine while stationed here.
