Rock Solid Warrior:Tech. Sgt. Jimmy Steube Published Oct. 17, 2017 By Staff Sgt. William Banton 386th Air Expeditionary Wing SOUTHWEST ASIA -- SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Tech. Sgt. Jimmy Steube, the Fire Emergency Services station chief with the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department, is deployed from the 908th Civil Engineer Squadron, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the missionWhy did you join the Air Force? The reason I joined the military was because when I was in ninth grade I watched 9/11 on T.V. live. I specifically chose to join the Air Force because my grandfather, who served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, retired from the Air Force. How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?Here I am operationally a crew chief and fire officer on a variety of fire apparatuses and am responsible for responding to calls and if necessary taking command. Back home I am the chief of training. I manage and coordinate training, oversee live fire burns and Insure certification packages are submitted properly. What are some of your professional and personal goals? My professional goal is to complete my current professional military education while working to find ways to use this deployment to better my home station.Personally, I am just trying to stay healthy and injury free in the game called fitness. What is your favorite part of your mission here?My favorite part of the mission is knowing that myself and job matter in the big scheme of things. Pilots aren’t able to place bombs on target unless everyone is doing their job efficiently and becomes the best “piece of the puzzle” they can be in the operation. What are some of your hobbies?I really enjoy the sport of competitive and Olympic weightlifting. What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?It has been challenging for me to adjust to the desert climate. I’ve also missed my family and loved ones since being away from my home. Workwise, its been challenging to obtain certain items and equipment that are normally easily available back home. I overcome these challenges by staying in contact with my family as much as possible, setting small goals and challenges to stay busy and always making time for fitness.
