SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Eric Adams, a 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron quality assurance inspector. He is deployed from Kadena Air Force Base, Japan.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined the Air Force because I have always liked the idea of working in some sort of aviation field. I also wanted the education benefits, and the ability to travel and work around the globe. There is also a long line of military service in my family, and I wanted to continue that.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?
Back home I am a quality assurance inspector for the metal fabrication flight. Here, in addition to metal fabrication, I evaluate eight different aircraft maintenance AFSCs. It is a constant learning experience interacting with so many different maintainers.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?
My main goal right now is to finish Course 15. Once I am finished with that, I’ll focus on studying for technical sergeant and completing my bachelor’s degree.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?
Seeing everyone’s different roles and their impact on the overall mission is very rewarding. It is also nice to see so many different services and nations working together on the common goal of defeating terrorism.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?
Obviously, being away from family is always difficult; however, the base has Wi-Fi almost anywhere you would need it, so keeping in touch is no problem. Otherwise, the base has everything you could ever want and need.

What are some of your hobbies?
Number one hobby is spending time with the wife and pup. I am also a car enthusiast, gun aficionado, and love to fish. Last but not least, I am a Kentucky Wildcats fan, even though they just got beat out of the NCAA tournament.
