This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Master Sgt. Vincent Doria. He is the lead production superintendent with the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron. The Long Island, New York native is deployed from the 35th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Misawa Air Base, Japan.

Q:  What is your family's military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?):
A: Both brothers, Anthony & Chester were AF.   Uncle was Army/fought in Vietnam.  Grandfather was Army/fought in WWII

Q:  What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A:  "Putting iron in the sky" Supporting the flight line production effort.

Q:  What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A:  Working up close with aircraft I never dealt with before and interacting with different branches of the military & civilian.

Q:  What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A:  Every branch has its own unique way of taking care of business with their aircraft.  And that doesn't always coincide with AF regs.  But we strive on creating a great working relationship from the start. And when differences surface on the flight line, all it takes is a friendly conversation to make sure we are all working together.

Q:  How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A:  For me, work is work.  But at home station you get to see your family at the end of the day.

Q:  How many times have you deployed?
A:  5

Q:  What makes this deployment unique?
A:  I've been an F-16 Fighter Crew Chief for over 18 years and every time I deployed before it was with my own unit. This assignment is unique because I'm the only one here from my unit and there's no
F-16's.

Q:  Why did you join the Air Force?
A:   I joined more off a feeling than a reason.  Just woke up one morning, called my dad and said
"I want to join the military".  He drove from Florida to NY to pick me up and 2 days later I was at a recruiter's office.  Within a couple years, he put all three of his boys in the AF.

(The Rock Solid Warrior is a weekly spotlight focused on an outstanding member of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing. These unsung heroes have been nominated by their unit leadership to be recognized for their efforts while deployed.)
