Rip-roaring at the Rock

Two comedians traveled Aug. 13 to provide Airmen of the Rock some humorous perspectives during a pair of shows at the Rock theater.

Miss Gayle and Tommy Davidson entertained 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Airmen with their takes on diets, shopping, 24-hour television, the desert heat, and much more. Armed Forces Entertainment and members of the 386th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron arranged the visit.

The comedians first held a meet and greet at the Drop Zone, then visited wing headquarters to meet Col. Charles Bolton, 386 AEW commander.

Davidson, who’s originally from Mississippi, had a role in the Jim Carrey movie “Ace Ventura” and appeared in the TV comedy “In Living Color.” A veteran comedian with Armed Forces Entertainment, this was his second trip overseas in recent years. Davidson has also performed in Afghanistan and said getting out on the comedy tour helps keep him engaged with the morale of service members.

“It’s good for me,” he said.

At the theater, the comedians provided an early evening show followed by meet and greet photos with Airmen, followed by a second show later in the evening. Davidson’s routine included several impressions, sound effects, and skits that depicted frustrated shoppers.

While most of their time was devoted to making the Airmen laugh, they set aside some time for thanking the Marauders of the 386th AEW for their service too.

“This is the land of the free, and the home of the brave,” Gayle told the Airmen. “You are the brave.”

Senior Airman Tiffany Jenkins, 386 EFSS, assisted with the coordination of the visit. Jenkins traveled to a local airport to pick up the comedians, and made sure they were well-rested and well-fed during their time at the Rock.

“I think everybody had a good time,” she said. “These comedians were down to earth.”

Airmen of the EFSS are planning more live entertainment for the wing throughout this fall and early winter as well. More information will be provided as soon as it's available.
