455TH AIR EXPEDITIONARY WING FACT SHEET

MISSION
The 455th Air Expeditionary Wing is comprised of approximately 2,000 Airmen at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. The wing consists of five groups - the 455th Expeditionary Operations Group, 455th Expeditionary Mission Support Group, 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Group, 455th Expeditionary Medical Group, and the 451st Air Expeditionary Group. The wing's priorities are "Defend the Base, Support the Fight, and Win."

LOCATION
Bagram Airfield is located in Afghanistan's Parwan Province, approximately 11 kilometers (7 miles) southeast of the city of Charikar and 47 kilometers (27 miles) north of Kabul. The airfield has an 11,800-foot runway capable of serving bomber and large cargo aircraft.

The Wing is co-located with Combined Joint Task Force-10 (CJTF-10) at Bagram Airfield. CJTF-10 conducts operations that develop Afghan capability to secure its people, exercise independent governance and develop a sustainable economy while defeating terrorists and insurgents.

ORGANIZATION
The 455th AEW is one of two Air Force wings in Afghanistan and supports members deployed throughout the country as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
 
 455th Expeditionary Operations Group: The operations group is responsible for all expeditionary flying and aeromedical evacuation operations for the 455th AEW. The group oversees operations of one A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support squadron, one C-130 Hercules airlift squadron, one HH-60 Pave Hawk rescue squadron, one aeromedical evacuation squadron, one MC-12W Liberty airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance squadron, and administrative control over an EC-130 Compass Call electronic combat squadron. The group also oversees support functions such as air traffic control, intelligence, weather and airfield management and operations for both Bagram and Kabul.

455th Expeditionary Maintenance Group: The group provides combat-ready aircraft and munitions to the air component commander in support of coalition forces throughout Afghanistan. The group is comprised of two squadrons responsible for on-and-off-aircraft maintenance and sortie generation, as well as launch, recovery, and servicing support for military and commercial transient aircraft.

455th Expeditionary Mission Support Group: The group provides a wide range of services for the air component commander in support of coalition forces throughout Afghanistan. The 455th EMSG is comprised of six squadrons responsible for personnel accountability, manpower resources, airfield management, billeting, morale and welfare, communications, local national force protection escorts, fuels, vehicle maintenance, logistics planning and passenger and air terminal operations.

455th Expeditionary Medical Group: The group is the Air Force component for Task Force Medical East, which provides combat medical and combat medical support services to U.S. and coalition forces throughout Afghanistan. The group supports a 24/7 Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility (CASF) and serves as the aeromedical evacuation hub for all of Afghanistan. Along with the U.S. Army, the 455th EMDG staffs the Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram.

451st Air Expeditionary Group: The 451st AEG provides an airpower presence in the Afghanistan area of operations and are located at Kandahar Airfield. 451st AEW Airmen provide Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Command and Control, RPA operations and Airborne Datalink capabilities. Aircraft include MQ-1, MQ-9, MC-12W Liberty and the E-11A.
