U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Blake Skidmore, 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron loadmaster, is ready to perform an airdrop mission over Afghanistan on a C-17 Globemaster III filled with bundles of supplies, March 30, 2013. The loadmaster performs calculations and plans cargo and passenger placement to keep aircraft within permissible center of gravity limits throughout flight. Loadmasters ensure cargo is placed on aircraft in such a way as to prevent overloading sensitive sections of the airframe and cargo floor. A Day on the Job: Metals Shop
SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Todd Mathis, a metals technology craftsman from the 379th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Aircraft Metals Technology Shop, uses a tungsten inert gas welder to bond two aluminum pieces together. Known as Metals Shop, their mission is to support aircraft and air ground equipment with skills in metal work; the only shop capable of working and welding exotic metals such as titanium, cobalt and nickel alloy.
