‘Blue Hawk’ entertains servicembers, Kyrgyz community
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan – Staff Sgt. Jorge Cruz plays the saxophone during the American Embassy’s official Fourth of July celebration here July 1. The Air Forces Central Command Band “Blue Hawk” spent the weekend leading up to Independence Day, and the holiday, performing for Americans and Kyrgyz citizens at the U.S. Embassy, the Transit Center, in the nation’s capital Bishkek and a cancer center. Jon Williams, a mission crew commander, 963rd Expeditionary Airborne Air Control Squadron, on the E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS, reached 10,000 flying hours on the aircraft July 4, 2011, in Southwest Asia-- a feat that has only been achieved a handful of times since the aircraft became operational in the Air Force in 1977, two years before Maj Williams joined the Air Force. 6/15/2011 – ASADABAD, Afghanistan – With support from Task Force Bronco 4, teams removed portions of a Mi-17 helicopter after a crash in Kunar province. Thirteen members of the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing responded to the incident scene. There were six people on board the aircraft when it crashed and officials indicate there were no life-threatening injuries. Airmen were on scene of the crash for more than a week.
