U.S. Air Forces Central Command held their bi-annual Weapons and Tactics Conference Sept. 26-27, 2018 at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Tactical experts from across the area of responsibility discussed current issues and provided solutions for challenges facing the U.S. Air Force, joint services, and coalition partners.

WEPTAC allows Airmen that are directly involved in the war fight the opportunity to have direct conversations between tactical experts and senior leadership in order to make improvements that better serve the mission across all domains, said Capt Patrick J. Looby, AFCENT weapons officer.

The conference brings together working groups to present specific areas of interest such as air domain awareness and optimizing air support.

“It’s about empowering deployed Airmen, directly involved in or supporting the fight, to have access to let senior leaders know what the fight needs,” said Combined Force Air Component Commander Lt. Gen. Joseph T. Guastella. “We must look at multiple ways to use tools better to optimize the fight.”

Once the working group chairs present their recommendations, the CFACC and senior leaders are able to make informed decisions on enhancing equipment and policies to better allow the warfighter to operate and win across all domains.

“We are still perfecting the air to ground machine after all these years, it’s astonishing what airpower can provide the joint campaign,” said Guastella. “We get recommendations from experts which are a testimony to this day, of the quality of graduates we have from the weapons school. I consider this one of the most valuable conferences in the AOR based on the level of expertise gathered here.”
