Looking to boost fire response capabilities, the first mini-pumper fire truck was delivered to the Afghan Air Force at Kandahar Air Wing recently.

Officials say the truck will enable firefighters to safely travel to and from emergency scenes, transport vital equipment and will also provide an additional attack line from a separate water source in order to ensure on scene firefighter protection.

The truck is the second emergency response vehicle assigned to the Afghans at KAW.

"This vehicle will vastly improve fire operations due to its capability to bring equipment and personnel safely to the fire scene," said Tech. Sgt. Blaine Holland, 738th AEAG. "This vehicle will enable us to transport five firefighters and eliminates the safety hazard of firefighters riding on top of their major crash vehicle to the scene."

According to fire officials, the addition of the truck will also improve training between the 738th advisors and AAF advisees as it provides lighting for night operations, a secondary water source for rapid intervention team attack and a command post for on scene command and control.

Firefighters will now begin training to learn how to safely operate the truck and its systems as well as all of its functional capabilities. Officials say the equipment on the truck will be inventoried and an additional course on how to safely operate the equipment will be offered.

"I am very happy that we got this truck," said Fire Chief Mohammed Noor.
