Officials opened the transit center gates to local contract employees, and their associates during Friends and Family Day.

Individuals and groups got the chance to tour a KC-135 "Stratotanker" operate a Explosive Ordnance Disposal robot, watch a K-9 demonstration, enjoy lunch and view day-to-day operations at the Transit Center.

"It was a good trip, and I think the U.S. Military showing local people what goes on here helps relieve unnecessary perceptions about the Transit Center," said Mr. Kairat Murzakimov. "I got to bring my family here, and they liked the music and the picnic. I loved to see the display of technology, the cars, the EOD robot and the soldiers here were very interesting--it was a good experience."

Mr. Akyl Imaraliev, 376th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron three-year power production technician agreed.

"It strengthened the relationship between the United States and Kyrgyzstan--it makes us closer," he said. "(My family) wanted to see where I work, and it's not possible for them to go to the states so it's easier for them to come see the base.

"They are really glad they came because some of them have never been here--all of them are happy."

Transit Center staff helped local Kyrgyz through tours and also answered questions about operations and the overall mission.

"It was a great opportunity for the Kyrgyz employees to share with their friends and family about what they do here," said Staff Sgt. Mikeya Vance, 376th Air Expeditionary Wing admin and tour administrator. "Everyone was excited to learn about our mission, how we live and operate here on a day to day basis.
"It was a very positive and enjoyable experience, and our Kyrgyz visitors were extremely nice and appreciative," she concluded.
