Forty-three members of the Afghan Air Force graduated from the air orientation, cooking and food service and security forces course from Pohantoon-e-Hawayee, the Afghan Air Force's "Big Air School", on the Afghan Air Force base in Kabul, Afghanistan March 17.

"The graduation recognized the first group of Airmen to complete the relatively new cooking and food service course," stated Lt. Cmdr Glenn Hanks, Director of Operations for 738th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron. "The cooking course trains soldiers to the importance of personal hygiene and proper sanitary procedures required to ensure healthy, balanced meals are prepared to maintain an optimum fighting force."

Lt. Cmdr Hanks explained the air orientation course is the first indoctrination or "initial bluing" Afghan Air Force Airmen receive as part of their training. Afterwards, students then proceed to the military specialty job training as required to meet the needs of the AAF.

"Some of the orientation graduates are going to start maintenance training, but the majority of this class will go to the security forces course," said Lt Cmdr Hanks. "Security forces course trains AAF airman to the tasks required of members who serve as the first line of defense at AAF posts throughout Afghanistan, protecting personnel and equipment."

Lt. Cmdr Hanks stated the newly graduated cooks and security forces soldiers are ready to be assigned to operational units of the AAF, start their jobs and serve Afghanistan.
