Navy Dentist helps Afghan Air Force dentist

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan --  Lt. Cmdr. Sholi Rotblatt, a dentist in the U.S Navy Reserves deployed to Afghanistan, volunteered his time and additional dental supplies to assist Afghan dentist Dr. Basir to treat patients at the Kandahar Air Wing Medicine Clinic March 17.

Together, Doctors Rotblatt and Basir removed a large cavity that an Afghan Air Force Airmen had been suffering from for years. The tandem also extracted an infected wisdom tooth.

The two operations are the beginning for a partnership that Commander Rotblatt hopes to continue with Dr. Basir while in Afghanistan. He sees it as an opportunity to assist and advise Dr. Basir in providing care to his patients in an effort to achieve cutting edge dental care that can be sustained.
