Walker 438th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs ZERKO VALLEY, Afghanistan -- The Afghan Air Force conducted an aerial survey of the Zerko valley after a call from the Herat and Shindand District governors who were concerned about flooding within the region Feb. 4. "The Afghan Air Force and Afghan National Army's 207th Corps are prepared to support movement and delivery of humanitarian assistance," said Lt. Cmdr. Mario Salinas, 838th Air Expeditionary Advisor Group. "The Shindand District Governor Lal Mohammad's priority is to distribute blankets, tents, water and food to the displaced people." Initial estimates of those affected by the floods were 200 to 1,000 local nationals; however, current estimates show approximately 2,000 households affected. Many of their homes and fields were flooded due to heavy rains. The plan is to transport available aid from the Shindand Air Base as soon as possible and they are looking to provide more aid from around the country.
