Shindand Air Base Conducts Joint Training Published Feb. 1, 2011 By Col. Larry "LB" Bowers 838th Air Expeditionary Air Group commander SHINDAND, Afghanistan -- NATO Air Training Command - Afghanistan advisors from the U.S., U.K. and New Zealand conducted joint training with Afghan Air Force student pilots and Afghan National Army non-commissioned officer trainees during exercise RAGING BULL at Shindand Airbase Jan. 31. Students performed air assault training on the Mi-17 transport helicopter with 33 ANA soldiers participating. This combined AAF and ANA training exercise gives great practical experience to both student pilots and their ANA soldiers being carried and trained on proper procedures to enter, exit and setup a defensive landing zones as well as practicing air assault missions. The joint class has recently tripled in size from 19 to 60 after the last class started communicating with their friends about the joint training on helicopters they received. This is just the beginning of a very synergistic program designed to strengthen the bonds between the ANA and the AAF. This is a great step in joint training at Shindand Air Base. 110131-F-9991X-001
