Military members and civilians participated in the Cross Fit "Fight Gone Bad" Challenge at the Tuskegee Fitness Center's basketball court Oct. 20, 2010, Joint Base Balad, Iraq. The challenge consisted of three one-minute rounds at five workout stations: wall ball, sumo dead-lift high pull, box jumps, push press and rowing.

The energy and intensity that was seen, felt and heard by the participants drew crowds of spectators to cheer on their coworkers and friends as they competed in this fiery inferno of a challenge that lasted more than three and a half hours.

Cross Fit is a strength and conditioning workout that combines weightlifting, sprinting and gymnastics. There are 10 areas of fitness that Cross Fit covers: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination and accuracy.

Cross Fit is just one of many classes available at fitness centers in deployed locations and home stations. Other classes include spin, P90X, step aerobics, weight training and yoga - all of which can contribute to being fit to fight and better able to handle the rigors of a deployed environment.
