Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan, Jim Lovell, and former "Good Morning America" host David Hartman visited Joint Base Balad, Iraq, Oct. 11-12, 2010. Mr. Hartman helped guide discussion as the spaceflight pioneers shared their experiences with hundreds here during a panel discussion in Sustainer Theater and informal tours of work centers. As Apollo 11 commander, Neil Armstrong was the first human to walk on the moon; retired Navy Capt. Jim Lovell was the commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission; retired Navy Capt. Gene Cernan, Apollo 17 commander, was the last human to depart from the moon. The visit was the second "Legends of Aerospace Tour," by the USO and Armed Forces Entertainment, bringing American air and space heroes to meet U.S. troops stationed in Europe and Southwest Asia.
