Members of the Afghan Air Force, Combined Air Power Transition Force and Task Force Center met with Deh Ali Baig village elders to discuss ways the Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition partners can assists their civilian neighbors on Aug. 5, 2010.

The 838th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group Commander, Colonel Larry Bowers and Task Force Center leadership had a successful discussion concerning the water needs of the village and how the new well know as a "karez" at Shindand Air Base will help to increase the village's water supply and help with their crop irrigation.

A karez is a type of underground irrigation canal running between an aquifer on the piedmont to a garden on an arid plain. They are common in Afghanistan and the karez technology is used most extensively in areas with an absence of larger rivers with year-round flows sufficient to support irrigation.

Afghan Air Force Colonel Shoresh and other Shindand AAF leadership had the opportunity to meet with the elders continuing a tradition of AAF and Deh Ali Baig village cooperation going back almost 50 years at Shindand Air base.
