Scan Eagle provides "eye-in-sky" for Security Forces in Iraq

8/4/2010 - JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq --  The Scan Eagle is a long- endurance remotely piloted aircraft providing real-time situational awareness and force protection information for Air Force Security Forces expeditionary teams.

"Scan Eagle is the only intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform organic to the U.S. Air Force Security Forces in Iraq," said Tech. Sergeant Jeffrey Dye, 332nd Security Forces Group noncommissioned officer in charge Scan Eagle operations. Tech. Sgt. Dye is a native of Amery, Wis., deployed from Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

The Scan Eagle provides immediate over-watch for fire teams, scans targets of interest, searches points of origin and impact of indirect fire, and assists in locating weapon caches. The 40-pound Scan Eagle has been deployed since August 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
