Afghan Kandahar Air Wing and the U.S. Air Force stand shoulder to shoulder on Memorial Day Published June 2, 2010 438th Air Expeditionary Wing KABUL -- Maj. Gen. Abdul Raziq Sherzai, Afghan Kandahar Air Wing Commander and Brig. Gen. Mohammed Yousuf, Afghan Kandahar Wing Vice Commander, joined Brig. Gen. Guy Walsh in recognizing America's fallen warriors on Memorial Day. The men and women of the 451st Air Expeditionary Wing at Kandahar hosted a moving tribute to those service men and women whom have made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of liberty and promotion of freedom around the world. Since last year's Memorial Day, seven Airmen of the 451st AEW lost their lives while serving in Afghanistan. General Sherzai expressed his gratitude to General Walsh saying, "Our friendship and shared activities are a small way in which we attempt to repay the large debt Afghans owe America for the sacrifices of those whom have given their lives for my country." General Yousef added, "We also thank you for helping us develop the ability to provide for our own safety and security and that working shoulder-by-shoulder, there will be fewer to remember next year." Both were appreciative letting them participate in this ceremony and the opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices of the families of those who died in Afghanistan. This shared expression of sorrow and gratitude for the sacrifices on behalf of so many, further bring Afghan and American Airmen together and demonstrate the close US/Afghan partnership and continued development of Afghan military leaders.
