OVER AFGHANISTAN -- Joint terminal attack controllers are the linchpin of a tactical air control party. In addition to the controller, the teams include a ROMAD, or radio operator, maintainer and driver; and an air liaison officer, which are usually pilots who offer their airframe expertise to JTACs and function as a go-between for the controllers and higher headquarters leadership. JTACs work closely with aircrews and their aircraft, including F-15 Strike Eagles, like the ones pictured here. These F-15s are from the 335th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron and dropped several 2,000 pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions on a cave in eastern Afghanistan, Nov. 26, 2009.
