Airmen from the United States Air Force assigned to the 438th Air Expeditionary Training Group, located at Kandahar Airfield Afghanistan, work with airmen in the Afghanistan National Army Air Corps as they strengthen their own air force.

"We're helping build up the Afghan air corps through pilot development, training, mission flying, as well as all the support - logistics, fire protection, CE, intelligence," said U.S. Air Force Capt. R. Tyler Rennell, a pilot mentor with the 438th Air Expeditionary Training Group.

Afghanistan's terrain, size and lack of transportation-related infrastructure are some of the reasons that a strong air force is important to the future security of Afghanistan, according to the captain.

The 438th Air Expeditionary Training Group is part of the Combined Air Power Transition Force, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, headquartered in Kabul.
