NEWS RELEASE: Predator crashes in central Iraq

An Air Force MQ-1 Predator Unmanned Aircraft System crashed in central Iraq at approximately 7:50 a.m. Baghdad time, on August 13, 2009. The crash was not due to hostile fire. There were no reports of civilian injuries or damage to civilian property at the site.

The aircraft is a medium-altitude, long-endurance, remotely piloted aircraft. The MQ-1's primary mission is conducting armed reconnaissance.

A board will be convened to investigate the incident.
