The (dust) devil came down to Balad
JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq -- A dust devil blows through the airfield near an F-16 Fighting Falcon here Aug. 28. The aircraft was in the north de-arm area after returning from a mission. The flat terrain, clear skies and light wind typical of summers here makes dust devils a common phenomenon. While they can reach more than 1,000 meters in height, they are much less intense than tornadoes. (U.S. Air Force photo/Capt. Jeffrey Godzik)
