Visionary doctor helps hundreds of Iraqis
ALI BASE, Iraq -- Retired Air Force Colonel Stephen Waller, a contract ophthalmologist from Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas, works with his medical team to perform an eye surgery here May 20. His team is comprised of two Iraqi doctor's assistants from the Nasiriyah General Hospital and two provincial reconstruction team members. The doctor came to Iraq to provide eye exams, surgeries and free glasses to hundreds of Iraqis in need. Dr. Waller arrived here May 18 and finished his humanitarian mission four days later.
