Thirty-five Iraqi citizens were killed and 66 were wounded in a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in Baquba, Diyala Province, April 15.

One Iraqi Policeman was killed and one also wounded in the attack. Three buses were destroyed and 10 local shops were damaged.

Several of the wounded Iraqi citizens are being treated at  the Air Force Theater Hospital, Balad Air Base.

"These acts are intended to inflict fear into the local population and are just another example of the cruelty of the anti-Iraqi insurgency," said Maj. Peggy Kageleiry, a spokeswoman for Multi-National Division-North.

"Although attacks such as today's event are tragic, it is not indicative of the overall security situation in Baquba," said Maj. Mike Garcia, spokesman for the Coalition forces responsible for Diyala province. "This is the first suicide attack inside Baquba in almost 90 days, and the overall violence in the city has decreased by 80 percent since June."
