The 380th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron entomology shop consists of U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Faatupu Siimalevai, Master Sgt. Stephen Beeson, and Staff Sgt. Leonardino Gentiles. Their focus is to support the mission by controlling any biological or health hazards, and anything considered a pest.

“We control, survey and prevent any pest infestations that might stop operations on base,” said Siimalevai, flight chief for the team.

They also deal with stray cats and dogs that appear on base. Stray animals are captured and taken to an animal shelter off-base.

“We understand that we have cat lovers on this base but please do not feed, keep or hide any animals on base,” she said.

To keep facilities pest-free pest control has a few tips for everyone.

-Do not feed, pet, keep or hide any animals on base

-Take out trash at the end of the day; do not leave it right outside dorm room or work section doors.

-Do a weekly walk around your buildings. Look for things like standing water. Standing water can be a breeding ground for flying insects as well as a source of water for other pests.

-Do not disturb pest management traps. This includes dog and cat cages. Do not release any captured animals.
