First Afghan-led air assault class
An Afghan Air Force Mi-17 helicopter crew chief scans his sector Nov. 25, 2013 in downtown Kabul, Afghanistan. This mission marked the training completion for the first-ever Afghan-led air assault class at the Kabul Air Wing. The objective for this class was to pick up a simulated ground force from one location and insert them into another location, about 45 miles south of Kabul. The crews then had to respond to a call for immediate exfiltration. Their ability to execute a time on target infiltration and then react to a contingency validated both classroom and simulator training. This class was the fifth class to complete the air assault training course, and the first instructed entirely from start to finish by Afghan instructors without advisor assistance.
