KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- The 451st Air Expeditionary Wing hosted the Air Force Central Command Vehicle Program Management Team from Shaw AFB, South Carolina, including Jeff Park and Tech. Sgt. Kristina McInally Oct. 19 through 22.
The purpose of the team's visit was to validate the size of the wing's vehicle fleet and to "right size" the fleet requirements to meet mission requirements.
Tech. Sgt. Alvin Harris, the 451st Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron Vehicle Management Fleet NCOIC, served as the wing's focal point for gathering advance data from each unit, bedding down the team, and performing all meeting coordination efforts.
During the visit, the team met with every organization in the wing and jointly analyzed mission data to determine their unit's vehicle fleet requirements.
The validation efforts were successful for the wing. Vehicle authorizations for the wing mission grew approximately 90 vehicles and increased the fleet size by approximately 20 percent.
Additionally, current vehicles were looked at to make sure they are in the right units to best perform the mission. As a result, some vehicles will be moved and more will be obtained.
AFCENT personnel have begun the process to move some special purpose government vehicles into Kandahar, from both War Reserve Materiel and by realigning vehicles from other bases in the area of responsibility.
Additionally, a small number of vehicles will be leased to fill other authorizations. Vehicles should begin arriving within the next couple of months.
"We are very pleased," said Col. Todd Tyree, 451st Mission Support Group commander. "This is unprecedented and truly reflects the attitude and support of the headquarters staff to meet the needs of the warfighter."
