9/11 Message to Airmen

September 11th is a time to reflect on the fateful day twelve years ago that forever changed our nation. We must never forget the nearly 3,000 innocent people who lost their lives; nor should we ever forget the countless family members, loved ones and friends whose lives were forever changed. We are compelled to remember the spirit of resolve, strength, and unity as our nation came together in the hours, days and years following that unfortunate morning.

I am proud of the accomplishments of our service members, Defense Department civilians, and contractors who responded in the aftermath of September 11th. Since that day, our services and our coalition partners have dedicated our nations' most valued resources - our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers - to the defense of liberty.

The men and women of U.S. Air Forces Central Command serve honorably and with distinction, at home and abroad, supporting U.S. Central Command missions. Each time I travel around the region, I am deeply impressed by the spirit of our Airmen and with the important contributions they make every day. I think of the sacrifices of our military members and their families. I think of the Airmen who have laid down their lives for their fellow Airmen and service members. And we should never forget why...to preserve our freedom.

During this day of resolve and reflection, my thoughts are with you and I am confident that we are prepared for any challenge.

It is my honor to serve with you.
